All Critical Illness policies stipulate that you must survive for a set period of time after diagnosis. This is usually 28 days but some insurance companies have taken it down to 14 days.
After you have met the conditions of the survival time then you can make a claim - providing the following information to the insurance company:

proof of identity
proof of date of birth
a medical report from a consultant who specialises in your diagnosed condition.
The insurance payout will be tax-free.
