How much your critical illness policy costs is dependent on a number of issues: namely the sum you need to insure, your personal details (particularly your health and age) and the optional extras you require.

It's your age, health, sex, occupation and lifestyle that have the biggest impact on your premium. If your family has a history of serious illness such as cancer or heart disease then this will almost definitely mean higher premiums for you.

Extras such as Waiver of Premium and Indexation will also affect the cost.

Critical Illness insurance usually includes Total and Permanent Disability so if you contract any condition or have an accident that totally and permanently stops you from working, then you can make a claim. (Sometimes Total and Permanent Disability cover is an optional extra.)

Critical illness insurance can be chosen as either a “stand alone” policy or combined with Life Insurance - if you combine the two then you could save money and you will have double the cover.
