| Critical
illness cover is a type of life insurance which pays out if you are diagnosed with
a serious, chronic or terminal illness, need to have a specific type of operation or
you develop a condition or have an accident that means you cannot work. Critical illness
policies clearly state what illnesses, conditions and operations are included, and
you must have a listed condition to be eligible for the payout. Critical illness cover
is completely different from life insurance because it is a payout that will assist
you during your illness or condition, whereas life insurance is paid out in the event
of your death.
To receive your payout you need to survive for 28 days after the diagnosis of
the critical illness. The payment will be tax-free.
