Terminal Illness and Critical Illness cover are very different, as we have detailed below:

Terminal Illness insurance pays out you if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness - i.e. any illness or condition from which you are expected to die within 12 months.

Critical Illness insurance pays out if you are diagnosed with a critical illness listed on your policy, and survive for more than 28 days after diagnosis.

To receive a pay out using your critical illness insurance you must be diagnosed as having a serious, chronic illness or terminal illness which is listed on your policy, or require a specific type of operation which is listed on your policy, or be suffering from any condition or have an accident that 'totally and permanently' means you will never be able to work again.

1 in 5 men and 1 in 6 women will be diagnosed with a critical illness before their usual retirement age.
