Health issues are the most common cause of delays with life insurance.

However there are other factors that can contribute to delays. For example, if you have been sent a form that you have forgotten to sign and return, this will hold up the application process. All documents need to be returned when requested otherwise the insurance will not be finalised.

If you completed an application over the phone, the details of the answers you gave will be sent in the post and you will need to check, sign and return the documents. This letter may also ask your permission for the insurance company to ask your Doctor for confidential information about your medical history. You just reply to this or your Application will be put on hold.

If your premium is over £50 per month you will have to prove your identity under UK Law. You will be sent a letter detailing what proof they need - again your application will be put on hold without these documents.

It's also essential that you return the Direct Debit form when requested - without this form the insurer won't be able to request the payments from your bank.

The golden rule is: always deal with correspondence from the insurance company promptly.
