At first you just need to supply your date of birth, sex and whether or not you smoke.

When an insurance company gives you a quotation based on this initial information, they will assume that you are in good health for your age, and that you are not open to above average risks via your occupation or your hobbies.

If you want to progress with a quotation and apply for a policy, then you will be asked to fill out an Application form which will require more detailed information about you and your health.

Of course, when you apply for a quotation you'll also need to state what type of policy you want, the amount you want to be insured for and how long you want the insurance to last.
