If you add Critical Illness Insurance to your mortgage life cover, then you will also be covered for a wide range of serious illnesses and conditions. These will be listed within your insurance policy, and before you decide which policy to choose, make sure that it has a full and comprehensive list. If you are diagnosed with any of the critical illnesses listed on your policy, then you will be able to make a claim.

It is important to consider taking out Critical illness cover - and you have the choice of combining it with your Life Insurance policy (which is by far the least expensive way to buy both insurances) or taking out separate policies (which offers you much more protection).

If you choose to buy a combined Critical Illness and Life Insurance policy then, if you make a claim because of Critical Illness, the policy ends there. This means you are no longer insured with that policy and can make no claim for life insurance. However, if you want your Life Insurance to carry on after making a claim for Critical Illness, then you should get separate Critical Illness and Life Policies. This is more expensive but it does mean that you could get two payouts - one for critical illness AND another if you die during the term of the policy.
