For how long will the policy carry on meeting my mortgage repayments? |

Most Mortgage Payment Protection Policies will cover your mortgage payments up to a maximum of 12 months. However, if you return to work then the insurance will stop paying immediately. If you fall seriously ill and are never able to go back to work again, then a Mortgage Payment Protection Policy will be insufficient because it will only meet your mortgage repayments for 12 months. To insure for serious illness you would need critical illness insurance. This pays out a tax free lump sum from which you can totally repay your mortgage if you became seriously ill with one of the long list of illnesses covered by the policy. If you wanted insurance to repay your mortgage if you died then you need life insurance.
